https://www.headphonesshop.uk/categories/wireless-bluetooth-headphones Over-Ear HeadphonesOver-ear headphones, unlike earbuds, encapsulate the ears completely. They also have larger drivers that deliver deeper bass and a wider soundstage. Many include Bluetooth technology and active noise cancellation. The latest Master and Dynamic MW65 update offers superior audio, multiple ANC modes, and an impressive battery life with a stylish and distinct design.1. Sony WH-1000XM4 WirelessSony has enhanced an already great pair of headphones by introducing the WH1000XM4 wireless. They're lighter, feel more built, have an improved sound profile that is more balanced (though still bass-heavy) and come with an app that allows for some audio customization. They've improved their active noise cancellation, removing more background noises and extending the battery life. These headphones use Bluetooth 5.0 and support SBC, AAC, and Sony's own LDAC codec. The latter can transfer high-resolution audio, however you'll need to use compatible devices and streaming services. The WH-1000XM4s can also allow you to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time and automatically switch between them when required. This feature is enabled through the Sony Headphones Connect App and works flawlessly. One subtle improvement over the XM3 is the sensitiveness of their touch panels. They respond more quickly to the touch of a panel, and this makes them easier to control during a phone call or to listen to music. Sony has also added a feature that can make voices sound more clear and precise during calls. This is an obvious and a nice addition. The WH-1000XM4s may not be perfect, but they are among the best wireless headphones we've ever test. They are comfortable and well-made. They also have batteries that last for more than 30 continuous hours. They can be used as a passive device with a TRS cable. This is perfect for traveling or conserving energy. The WH1000XM4s provide a superior alternative to the Bowers & Wilkins Wireless Over-Ears PX7 S2. The Sonys are more comfortable and their ANC can block out more background noise. They also come with a companion application that lets you adjust their audio performance, and their EQ settings are more flexible than the B&W's. The B&Ws are better built and can connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. They also support aptXHD and feature an AI-driven engine that tries to up-scale compressed music to high-resolution. This is called DSEE Extreme and it does an excellent job of improving the clarity of music, especially when listening to lossless audio files.2. Bose QuietComfort 45/QC45 WirelessThe $329 Bose QuietComfort45 noise-canceling headset is the most current version of a headset that has become a favorite among commuters and passengers all over the world. Rather than reinventing the wheel the new model uses the same formula that made its predecessor so popular, adding the USB-C port, which is better at cancelling noise and a longer battery life. These over-ear Bose headsets have a premium feeling and look, much like the QC 35 II headphones that were before them. The headband, made of plastic, provides an incredibly solid feel due to the metal hinges at pivot points. It also has the familiar ratcheting mechanism whenever you retract or extend your ear cups. The cups are soft cushioned pads that are securely positioned over your ears and do not apply pressure on your head. When folded they weigh 238 grams. They can be used when you're wearing a sweater or coat as the noise cancelling function works even when they're not on your head.Despite their reputation for comfort, the QC45s do not offer the best sound in this price range. The frequencies are flat and lack the detail that headphones with higher prices might be able to bring out. The higher registers tend to be more boosted, which is fine for most music, but could be a problem for delicate or intricate genres of music. The bass is decent, but is lacking power. The ability to pause the playback when removing the headset is a feature that is missing. This is a feature that Bose's rivals have provided for many years. Another oversight is the absence of an in-app EQ. Bose has preset EQs available in the app, but it would be nice if there was an option to control the EQ manually. You can connect to your tablet or smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0 with multipoint support as well as more advanced codecs like aptX Adaptive. You can download the Bose Audio app to adjust the volume and voice assistant settings. The QC45s come with four built-in microphones that listen to your voice during calls. The quality of calls is generally very good however, the headphones don't have the nifty capability to turn off your voice during playback, which is something other wireless headphones do. Update: A firmware upgrade for the QC45s was released in February 2022 included manual adjustments to the audio app. This is a welcome upgrade.3. Focal Bathys WirelessFocal is a French audio company known for high-performance headphones that provide long-lasting comfort and a design that makes listeners feel like they're listening to something truly special. Their first foray into wireless noise cancelling headphones The Bathys, are a stunning set of cans that look and sound fantastic. They also have a built in high performance USB DAC which means you can use them for both wired and wireless listening.Focal claims that the Bathys can play Bluetooth music for up to 30 hours. We had more than 40 hours of playback time on average from just one charge. If you require a recharge, there's an indicator light on the right earcup that turns red when the earphone needs to be charged. For headphones for this price, they come with a lot of features. They can connect to multiple devices simultaneously and offer automatic pairing. (You must select your source device manually every time you listen.) They come with a built-in microphone that works with voice assistants such as Siri or Alexa. The headphones also have an easy-to-use interface, making it easy to manage your music and make calls. For over-ear wireless headphones, the Bathys perform very well in our tests of noise cancellation, which reduces the ambient sound by about 9 decibels in average. They aren't as good as the ANC found in the Sony WH1000XM4 or Bose QuietComfort45/QC45 Wireless however it's still effective. The Bathys headphones did well in our headphone sound tests. Their frequency response was largely similar to the headphone curve of SoundGuys, with only minor deviations in the mids and bass. They have a deep, bass-filled sound profile that adds plenty of boom to mixes however, they can make instruments and vocals like cymbals sound dull.Wear them wherever you want without worrying that others will listen to your music. The microphone has a decent quality of recording via Bluetooth with only a slight distortion in the mid to treble range.4. Sennheiser Momentum 4The Sennheiser Momentum Wireless is a new version of the company's top Bluetooth headsets. The previous model, the Momentum 3, was a solid but unspectacular entry into the category. The new model improves on the previous model with modern design, better gesture controls and massive battery life.A lot of the improvements here are subtle, but they make a pair of over-ears that feel like an upgrade to the old one. The Momentum 4s are flat and do not fold however they come with a nice hardshell case to protect them while on the go. They also follow the pattern of a number of other recent Bluetooth headphones, such as the ones from Sony and Bowers & Wilkins, to be completely device-independent. This means they work well with both Android phones and Apple iPhones, however they do not come with the extra features (like Find My support and head-tracked Spatial Audio) that are available on the AirPods. The most notable difference is the massive battery that can play for up to 60 hours with noise cancellation on. This is more than twice as much as most of the competitors and sufficient to go on a long-distance trip without having to search for an outlet.Engadget senior editor Billy Steele gave the headphones an 82 score and cited their sound quality and ANC as their main strengths. He only has one complaint that they lack of gravitas in the mids and treble. This means that orchestral tracks sound flat, not grand. The bass is well-rounded but it can sound overemphasized, which can lead to fatigue in songs with heavy bass lines, like the drum beats of As I Lay Dying’s Forever. The cymbals can sound smoky rather than full, and there's no real feeling of depth in the lows. The Momentum 4s are comfortable and shouldn't put too much pressure on your neck or ears. They can be a bit fidgety when you wear them around the home or for long listening sessions. They will move around on your head, and make rapid head movements. This can cause them wake up in a sudden manner, which could be distracting while listening to music or making calls. Fortunately they stop working after 15 minutes of sleep by default and can be turned off manually off with the power button.
