Developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger in the 1990s, Family Constellations is an alternative form of therapy that is gaining popularity worldwide. Known as an experiential approach, it is believed to address issues that may have a systemic root. Proponents of the technique believe that a person’s anxiety, depression, and negative behaviors can be linked to the experiences and destructive patterns of their family members?both alive and dead?going back several generations.During a session, a client is asked to present the issue for which they seek resolution from a group of participants. Each member of the workshop stands in for a deceased or living family member who contributed to the client’s current difficulty. The facilitator of the family constellation then guides the representatives to place themselves in a way that is most likely to bring about a solution. The facilitator may also direct the representation to speak aloud, if needed, in order to convey certain feelings and intentions. As the representative positions themselves in relation to the other family members, they may suddenly begin to shed light on the root of the problem. The participant may then gain a deeper understanding of why he or she has been unable to find stability or peace in their lives and, through the healing work done within the constellation, may be able to break these patterns of negative behavior. This type of work can reveal complex emotions, such as guilt or shame, that might be contributing to a particular struggle. The therapeutic method also can illuminate unresolved relationships or even unspoken hatreds that can be passed down through generations. However, because of its subjective nature and lack of scientific evidence, Family Constellations therapy is not considered an effective treatment for psychological disorders. One study, for example, found that the technique can help individuals feel a greater sense of intuition and ancestral connection. The research examined eight white South Africans, who underwent a Family Constellations process workshop and completed pre- and post-test measures of their intuitive abilities and consciousness. The researchers concluded that the participants experienced gains in their intuition and some form of ancestral connection, which was often felt as a bodily experience and an energy flowing from an unknown or indeterminate source.A client who sought constellations for Psoriasis, an autoimmune disease that causes itchy and flaky skin, reported that the constellations were especially helpful in uncovering a feeling of oppressed guilt from her childhood. She was able to forgive her father for not protecting her from being abused by an older boyfriend and recognize the impact of this unspoken relationship on her later life, when she developed a chronic skin condition. Some criticism of Family Constellations is grounded in Hellinger’s patriarchal beliefs and alleged anti-Semitic views, as well as the way that his workshops are conducted. For example, in one session, he instructed Jewish participants to perform a ritual of gratitude toward the representatives of war criminals who killed their ancestors. Nonetheless, the method has proven to be a powerful tool for many people seeking relief from their personal struggles. https://terapiaselojodehorus.es/
